abstract = "When it comes to limnological parameters analysis in water bodies,
Brazilian companies still apply the traditional laboratory methods
to control pollution levels. Usually, those procedures demand a
great amount of money and laboratory structure to present high
quality results. It was discovered that remote sensing data can be
a useful tool to be applied in this pollution control process in
water bodies, mainly when dealing with large reservoirs. Due to
optically active components in water and their different spectral
behavior when interacting with different wavelength radiant
energy, it has been possible to develop techniques to detect their
presence and concentration using remote sensing data. This paper
aims to explore and apply the knowledge available to detect
chlorophyll-a and suspended solids concentration at a Nova
Avanhandavas reservoir affluent (Bonito River) using remote
sensing techniques, like derivative spectra. The results were
quite different from the ones in some papers, mainly the best
correlation wavelengths with the optically active components.
Based on those correlation analysis, the team created some
empirical models to represent the current situation on suspended
solids and chlorophyll-a on the water body. Those empirical models
were created using remote sensing reflectance itself, first and
second derivative of remote sensing reflectance. Although
derivative spectra were useful to chlorophyll-a analysis,
suspended solids modeling using that technique was not so accurate
                         as expected.",
